Cymbal assembly

Clutch, cymbal, mount.

Hi-hat clutch with the bottom nut and one felt removed

Remove the bottom locking nut and one felt piece from the hi-hat clutch bolt. Keep the other felt in place.

Clutch bolt inserted through the top of the cymbal pad

Place the cymbal pad face-up and insert the clutch bolt down through the centre hole — apply pressure if needed, it’s rubber. The felt washer should rest flat on top.

Threaded rod visible through the underside hub of the cymbal

Flip the cymbal. Confirm the threaded rod protrudes slightly through the centre hub on the underside.

Felt washer seated in the recessed hub on the underside

Slide the felt washer over the rod so it sits inside the recessed hub. This keeps vibration from transferring to the mounting and lets the cymbal move when hit.

Mounting cone threaded onto the rod Cone aligned with the cymbal cutout Cone tightened against the cymbal

Thread the mounting cone onto the rod from below. Align the anti-rotation fin with the cymbal cutout, then turn the clutch bolt until the felt meets the rubber. Don’t overtighten — the cone needs a little play to move.

Completed cymbal assembly with cone fitted

All parts connected. Cone aligned, fin in the cutout. The cymbal is ready to mount on the stand.

Sensor module

Onto the hi-hat rod.

Sensor module slid onto the top of the hi-hat rod

Set up your hi-hat stand and remove the felt washer sitting on the lower cymbal cup — The Hat module takes its place on the rod. Slide the sensor module down over the top of the rod, springs side up. The audio jack faces back, the logo faces front.

Plastic clip pressed into the front of the sensor module

Press the small plastic clip into the centre hole of the sensor module from the front.

Tightening the set screw on the side of the module with a hex key

Using a 3 mm hex key, snug the set screws on the side of the module and check it sits level. Firm, not tight — overtightening restricts pedal travel.

Final assembly

Mount, strap, plug in.

Lowering the cymbal assembly onto the module Underside view of the mounted cymbal Tightening the clutch wing nut

Lower the cymbal assembly so the mounting cone slots into the sensor module. The metal part of the cone should sit a few millimetres above the longer springs, not touching them. Tighten the wing nut.

Wrapping a velcro strap through the module cutout Velcro strap secured around the rod

Thread the velcro straps through the plastic cutouts and wrap them around. Leave a small amount of play — the module needs to be able to move up and down.

Plugging the cable into the cymbal pad jack Plugging the cable into the sensor module jack

Plug the 6.25 mm TRS cable into the cymbal pad jack. Plug the 3.5 mm TRS cable into the sensor module jack. Route cables so they don’t restrict movement. Nitro Pro: add the 3.5 → 6.25 mm adapter at the module end.

Done

You’re ready to play.

Power on the Alesis module. Adjust the sensor module height on the rod to dial in the open/closed feel of the hi-hat to your preference.
